Covid 19 – The Long & Winding Road.
These past five months, as we get closer to August 2020, have been probably been the most trying on Macushla’s Journey, since Mum Passed in 2016. I think Revelations come to mind and the World revealing its different colours. 114 funerals later, not including, friends, relatives and those I couldn’t attend. Thoughts and prayers go out for the grieving families whose lives will never be the same. A candle for and a De Profundis for each…………..
Its no Conspiracy I say to the Facebook trolls, they are not immune to the long and winding road! ‘I feel a song coming along.’ God help them they don’t know any different, with a heartful Hail Mary thrown in for good measure. ‘It’s always been thus;……. Life!’ A good Priest once told me. I can hear me Father shout down from Heaven, “Let D’ Hare Sit” (Take no notice) as Bridie pesters him for a Fag lol!
It’s the list of names that go through my mind as I lie alone in the darkness, praying for sleep to hurry up, with a tight grip on my Rosary Beads, before the phone rings to suit up. I really wonder how they ever coped during the two World Wars, and how lucky I am to have the essentials for living, as quiet as it here. Still somebody has me typing as Lilo & Terk, my kittens, who get in to trouble, to keep me out of trouble…..
(If Jesus was able to rescue the apostles from the storm, He is also able to rescue us from the storms of everyday life: sickness, job loss, marriage problems, and even the sting of death)
I have encountered some amazing individuals, who through Sacrifice, Service & Love, have touched the hearts of others. Especially all my colleagues at Stephen & Philip Painters Funeral Directors, whom I serve. A shout goes out in Macushla for Holly Doherty me PuppiDoc, who experienced first hand the extremities of a Covid Ward, nursing at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the darkness of which I shall not reveal. The unsung many outside the NHS, in the background whose Vocation doesnt require applause and they lead by example as Holiness is in Good Deed. The every day Saint walking in street, unseen by the world that appears to save the Day……Thank God, for the game changers, let the light shine through, it’s not all dark.
Moving forward; I cant wait to get back to swim, see my closest Friends how ever soon and my nearest and dearest for better times, hopefully Vespers will be back on at St Marys College Oscott and I can get out on more scooter runs. Until then Netflicks and a bag of Chips from Ben’s. Jazuz’ I’d murder a Burger King or two.
The numbers are on their way down with about 25% weekly reductions in Covid Deaths, although the indirect impact has kept me on my toes. I have missed playing Funeral Tributes, Services and my Arborial Work. There seems to hope over the horizon, normality and maybe a better world than the one we leave behind.

Finally my condolances to those grieving and those alone, dont give up, what wonders lie around the corner, of the Long and Winding Road? Maybe it will be a little more even, with some good deed. Some food for though! ” “For God is my Witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ” Philippians 1:8
